A CIA officer whom the FBI mistakenly hounded as a Russian mole for three years welcomed a Justice Department report Monday that said the bureau has made some progress in fixing its internal security problems in the years since the discovery that one of its own, Robert Hanssen, was stealing secrets for Moscow.

JEFF STEIN is an investigative reporter of long standing, specializing in U.S. intelligence, defense and foreign policy. In Sept. 2002, he launched CQ/Homeland Security. An Army Intelligence case officer in Vietnam, he later became CQ's National Security Editor and originated the SpyTalk column and blog.
