CIA Quieting Down After Years of Turmoil, But Memories Linger On

The CIA is a relatively calm place these days, its senior officials concentrating more on nailing foreign targets than each other--a nice change from the short, tumultuous era of Porter Goss and the "Gosslings," who are gone but not forgotten.

Looks like in addition to wine, Mr. Moorhead has also started the Millville Defense Group. The website says...

"Millville Defense Group (or MDG) was formed to support the requirements of the Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) in fighting The Long War, the DoD's term for the war against violent extremists."

The web URL is www.milldef.com but the URL currently redirects to a placeholder page, as if the current owner hasn't configured it.

HOWEVER, Google has the cached page here...

If he's a vinter, I'm the President.

Someone named Mike Murphy has a site at

http://www.millvillecapitalpartners.com/

that claims that the Millville Defense Group was the "initial platform company" of MCP, but now the website has removed all references to MDG.

Again, the Google cache shows us...

What do you think? Think Merrell Moorhad is really in Nova Scotia?

I don't know why I'm so interested in this but Moorhead's LinkedIn profile lists him as a "Defense & Space Consultant and Contractor" who is still apparently in the DC Metro area.

He only jumped out at me because the Nova Scotia thing just seemed so out of place with everything else. No other names from your article are this incoherent in terms of information availability. It seems that Mr. Moorhead is either a colossal moron when it comes to using the internet, or the vintner story is BS. I suspect the latter mostly because I hope someone like him so high up and involved at the CIA could also correctly browse and use the internet.

UJ, that information is a bit out of date. Moorhead was not able to raise the capital he needed to get it off the ground. Mike Murphy tells me that he is no longer with the compny.-js

Interesting. If you had to speculate, do you think it was because of his reputation as a Gossling or just lack of capital interest in that sort of company?

Turf wars inside the CIA as well as tug of wars between the CIA and Congress will always be! I spent over 20 years in the field and weathered countless such "wars" without even knowing they were going on! We occasionally heard about them through special channels but so long as they do not harm operational effectiveness, who cared. The CIA field operative learns to ignore these matters and go about the job of espionage as he/she is expected to do. Maybe the rest of the country should learn to do the same.

Porter, that was well put -- and on the money, for the most part. Sometimes these turf wars can spill onto the field, but the general rule is the farther you are from Washington, the less you care or are affected.-js
